Orientation in MVV Riding stadium

After the Mannheimer Maimarkt was moved to Friedensplatz, which is located on the opposite side of Luisenpark, the idea came up to organize a horse show within the framework of Maimarkt. The relocation of Maimarkt was possible with the help of the US Army, which was located near Heidelberg.

As part of a pioneer practice, the US army implemented the project to prepare the previously unsurfaced terrain into a riding area. As a result the first Maimarkt tournament was carried out in May 1964.

While the show jumping competition took place in the new riding area the dressage competition was still held on the terrain of Equestrian-Club Mannheim.

The most important show jumping competition, which is called “Badenia” was already held in the first competition year.

In 1985 Maimarkt tournament moved to the new constructed area in Mühlfeld, that’s why a new arena was constructed.
